Move, Think, Create, and Communicate is designed to fill the gap created when Extended School Year (ESY) programs finish and there is a break before the new school year. Our campers enjoy a safe, fun camp environment that includes the following:
Visual supports that enhance language comprehension and prediction
Sensory-based activities that enhance a camper’s ability to take advantage of language and communication opportunities
Relaxation techniques that enhance self-regulation
Daily living routines are incorporated into camp activities as appropriate
Staff and program content support play skills, social skills and participation in group activities
Camp facilities (such as the pool and nature trails) offer gross motor activities that satisfy sensory needs and encourage communication
Move, Think, Create and Communicate has the necessary elements, including a low camper-to-counselor ratio and trained, highly skilled staff, to offer children with ASD a supportive educational camp experience.

Welcome to the 11th season of Perspectives summer therapeutic program. The program is designed to eligible students with opportunities to learn new skills by participating in a range of therapeutic recreational activities. Our program is "integrated" in that we provide services to children with and without disabilities. The result is that students spend eight active and fun-filled weeks participating in recreational and skill building activities.
Who is eligible: Students between the ages of 5-21 are eligible. Most campers qualify for Extended School Year services based on identified Individual Education Plan goals. It is important to begin a dialogue with your child's school as soon as possible to discuss Extended School Year options.
Who we are: Since 1977 Perspectives has been providing support and needed services to help people with disabilities in our community. Our goal is to help those we serve to fully participate in life. To accomplish this, our programs are flexible and tailored to meet individual skills, needs, and strengths of those we serve.
Our Staff:
Perspectives' staff are a highly trained and committed group of professionals and paraprofessionals. Many of our staff are returning college students who are pursuing degrees in educations, psychology, and social work. All staff are screened with comprehensive background checks and driving record reviews as part of our careful screening process.
Professional staff are present weekly to provide oversight, clinical guidance and to facilitate individual and group therapies.
Academic learning, social skills, safety, community awareness, and exercise are integrated into the overall experience. Appropriate activities are matched with the campers' ages, interests, and developmental levels. Schedules are designed to address specific IEP goals that may include both academic and social/emotional development.
Activities offered: Skill building, including problem solving, sharing, taking turns, communicating feelings, being a good friend, relaxation strategies; academic supports, thematic units with weekly field trips, sensory exploration, sign language classes, gross motor, sports and swimming, arts and crafts, life skills, and expressive therapies.
Each day, there are morning and afternoon sessions with alternate choices to meet individual needs. The program runs from 9:00-3:00 (including transportation) and is located in Charlestown, RI. The program runs from June 25-August 17.
Application deadline is June 1, 2007. Sign up now by calling Brenda Verdi, LICSW, or James Simon, LICSW, at 401.294.8181. Email: summerprogram@perspectivescorporation.com
This is to let you know that the Massachusetts Department of
Conservation and Recreation is hosting a new activity in State and
Urban Parks this summer. Called Great Parks Pursuit, it is a family
or team-based adventure with clues online and discovery activities
at 6 different parks in upcoming weeks. It is part of on initiative
known as "No Child Left Inside" that is gaining national attention.
A flyer is attached and more description and accessibility
information follows below.
The Great Park Pursuit is a six week adventure on six consecutive
Saturdays from May 19 to June 23rd. Families, groups, and
individuals are welcome to attend for one or more of the events.
Participants will enjoy a variety of recreational and nature-based
learning activities – from hiking, fishing, canoeing, questing,
learning about birds of prey, and more – and registrants who
participate in all six events will be eligible to win major outdoor
equipment prizes donated by Eastern Mountain Sports.
Each park has different accessibility on site and it is likely that
some of the activities taking place will be in wheelchair accessible
locations within the parks. Additionally, the Universal Access
Program has provided one or more accessible activities for each
event. Part of the discovery process is to use online clues to
figure out the locations of each event and each Wednesday the
locations of the Saturday events will be announced online. In order
to provide you with information about the Universal Access Program
activities at each event and encourage people with disabilities to
attend, the events and their dates and are listed below. We don't
want you to miss out on the opportunity to enjoy a park – especially
if one of these 6 events is near you!
Most events are roughly on a 10-3 time frame. The first event at
Blue Hills is 11am – 3pm.
